I’m Not Lou Dobbs
I’m not Lou Dobbs and I’m not Joe the Plumber, so when it comes to political knowledge I’m somewhere in between: smart enough to cover my butt-crack but too busy to follow things full time.
Still, I can tell which way the wind’s blowing and the difference between something real and media-manufactured (I think) and here’s what I think of Barack Obama, the training-wheels senator bold enough to sail either the Amistad or the floundering U.S. through Katrina-like waters: he’s just what we need. Not “we” the U.S., you understand, or even “we” its allies; but for the first time, “WE” as in The World.
And demonstrably, I’m not alone in this, as millions of pilgrims made their way to Washington while a billion more tuned in worldwide. Thank God, we’re all saying, for this genuine black man. Thank God for his intellect, his candor, his fitness, his smile. Thank God for his ability to visibly think before speaking and his understanding that speaking—with minorities and power brokers, enemies and allies alike—is the key to solving the myriad illnesses—greed, distrust, inequity, violence—that so ail the world.
Thank God for his youth, thank God for his quiet strength, thank God he’s not George Bush, or any other politician that’s made the term such a dirty, distrustful word for so long.
But will it all be enough, I ask? Can Obama’s twin philosophies of partnership and sacrifice reverse the ill-will (hell, hatred) fostered by years of Republican-fueled, Cheney-driven, America-first foreign policy? Will there be time for his ‘Yes, We Can’ mantra to take hold, to become more than just a five-second sound-bite in a four year minefield certain with media muck-raking, Democratic in-fighting, Republican antagonism, foreign conflict and world-wide economic turmoil?
We’ll see, I think, we’ll see. But for the first time in a long time—like many—I’m hopeful.
Hopeful that Obama will make decisions based on what’s good for the world as opposed to what’s good for the super-rich—the powerful A-list Americans and friends that created this mess in the first place. Hopeful that Obama will re-interpret MAD Magazine’s little ditty—“Diplomacy is to do and say, the nastiest thing in the nicest way”—and win people over with tough, transparent, responsible decisions, rather than the back-room deal-making we’ve long come to dread. Hopeful that the joy I watched during the pre-inauguration ceremonies—a group of spirited, teen black boys singing and dancing in a way that most of us only wish we could—will somehow take hold of our Caucasian, constipated culture so that white men really can jump (and sing and smile and dance) with the same unencumbered, genuine, money-be-damned spirit.
But like I said, I’m not Lou Dobbs. I’m not a political insider. I don’t know the intricacies of the Supreme Court or Senate, blue states from red, that make Obama’s present hold on the world something more than a naïve, starry-eyed fairytale. I’m just a guy caught up in the spirit of things. A little afraid but spurred on by his daughter’s smiling/fearless thumbs up; buoyed like Beyonce with Obama-bred confidence to “want to be smarter and do better for this man”, to join in with those rollicking black kids, bursting with pride and potential, beaming as they . . . I . . . WE continue to sing:
“You broke it down.
No limits anymore.
O-BA-MA!
O-BA-MA!
Yes, We Can!”

The Real First Black President?
Did South Carolina change anything? Is there any logic or sanity to all these primaries? While I have to admit that the whole process seems antiquated and a waste of time, it seems as though something has changed since Obama’s overwhelming victory in the South Carolina primary. Here’s just a couple of the tremors coming from last Saturday.
First there was the speech. I’ve listened to both Obama’s New Hampshire losing candidate speech and the South Carolina winning speech. To say they are inspirational is an under statement. The more he speaks, the more people are drawn to him like a bug incapable of staying away from a warm porch light on a cool fall evening. Something has changed!
Then there was Caroline Kennedy!
Her long and articulate Op-ed in the New York Times was remarkable. I mean, here’s a woman talking about her father, Jack Kennedy, and saying that Obama stirs up reminders of her father: and, that her children are enraptured by Obama as well. Barack Obama can’t buy advertisements like that. Something has changed!
The very next day, word leaks out that Ted Kennedy will endorse Barack-Star today and go on a tour for a couple of days to stand with him. They are going West, where the Latino vote is, where Kennedy has a base, and where Hillary has built what’s now being known as a “Brown Firewall”. Can it be breached? With Ted’s endorsement, surely something has changed!
And we’ll know a lot more come Super Tuesday!
And now there’s Nobel Prize winner Toni Morrison who famously declared Bill Clinton to be the nation’s “first black president”. He is endorsing Barack Obama for president today, an Obama campaign source tells ABC News. In an October 1998 essay in The New Yorker, Morrison wrote: “Years ago, in the middle of the Whitewater investigation, one heard the first murmurs: white skin notwithstanding, this is our first black president. Blacker than any actual person who could ever be elected in our children’s lifetime.”
But now- something has changed!
There is truly a black man running for president who is articulate, intelligent, charismatic, and full of charm and hope. And he just may become the second black president- but the first with black skin!

Barack Wins, One Proud Black Man’s Thoughts
Barack wins, the feelings of one black man by George Cook www.letstalkhonestly.com 11/06/08
On Tuesday November 4, 2008 Barack Obama won the presidential election to become the 44th President of the United States. This was a great day for my family. It so moved me that I haven’t been able to sleep for two days and am still trying to come to grips with the Barack Obama victory.
Everything is like a blur and I am just starting to realize on November 6 that we have a black president. Even now in my slightly delirious state I keep waiting for some reporter on Fox News to start screaming about a voter discrepancy somewhere. Most likely Alaska.
I knew I had to write something but I was just too emotional or exhausted. Probably a combination of both. That and a few celebratory Heinekens.
Election Day was very special for me and besides the 3 hour wait to vote ( which will become six hours as I age and tell the story of how I walked in six inches of snow with no shoes to vote for Obama 30 years from now ) it was a beautiful day.
Early on I drove 3 elderly African American women who were all over 75 years old to the polls. They were acting like little school girls giggling and smiling. I almost said, “Don’t make me pull this car over.”
But it hit me that as happy as I was that I could not really appreciate what they felt. At only forty I have not faced real overt racism. But they had, They lived through Jim Crow and segregation. They saw America’s ugly side.
Their joy was really one of “We have overcome” and I knew they really appreciated and understood what was happening in their lifetime.
That made me think of my daughter who will in her lifetime think it’s normal for a black man to be president and hopefully one day will see a woman attain the highest office in the land. Now when I tell my daughter she can be president I wont be talking out one side of my mouth.
All these thoughts brought a few tears to my eyes. That’s a big deal for me since I can only remember crying three times in my adult life. Those three being when my great grandmother died, when my daughter was born, and when the Giants lost the Super Bowl in 2000.
I want to close by returning to those three old women I drove to the polls. Now everyone who has ever been in an old black persons home knows along with plastic covers on the furniture there are pictures of three people you will always see on the wall.
Jesus Christ, Martin Luther King, and John F. Kennedy.
Now they can add one more…………..

Black Jew Paves the Way in â??israel for Obamaâ?
Yeshiyah Amariel, a recognized Orthodox Jew of Hispanic (Cherokee) American descent, is all about Torah, unity and support for Israel. His slender form, Chassidic styled black suit, black hat, and dark skin to match would give the first impression that he was a Black Hebrew or Ethiopian Jew, but there is much more to him than meets the eye. He is a contributor to AIPAC, member of United Jewish Communities, and has also lived in Israel for several years as a volunteer for an Israeli archaeologist, the Nature and Park Authority and other worthy causes. He has been involved in translations of artifacts and excavations of Tel Arad, which is considered the only archaeologically discovered â??BYT-YHWHâ? in Israel, and received recommendations from colleagues to attend any university in the country to become an archaeologist. He is also currently studying to take exams to receive semicha from the Chief rabbinicâ??s office in Israel.Â
Amarielâ??s family are among the Native American tribes that many historical figures, such as the 1800s Jew Mordecai Noah, regarded as brothers to the Jewish people and a lost tribe of Israel. In 2005 Yeshiyahâ??s father was published in a Jerusalem Post article by Sheera Frenkel that traced their familyâ??s Jewish links through Cherokee roots and also spoke concerning his translation of the ancient Hebrew Tanakh into English (referred to as the first of its kind). Howshua Amariel (Yeshiyahâ??s father) is also a rabbi who sits on a Torah-based judicial committee of black Jews with Rabbi Capers C. Funnye Jr., cousin of Michelle LaVaughn Robinson Obama (Senator Barack Obamaâ??s wife).
In our interview, Yeshiyah Amariel claimed that his grandfather knew Senator Obama back when he was originally running for the Illinois State senate. Amariel added â??My grandfather told us that we should support Obama because he has good intentions. And given Obamaâ??s record of support toward Israel since he has been in the US Senate, I was inclined to agree with my grandfather.â? â??From my work, I have received letters of recommendations from Rabbis, Jewish community leaders, and Orthodox Israeli Jews in support of my goals to become an official rabbi in the State; but it wasnâ??t easyâ? said Amariel, stating that it took years for them to know that he was sincere in his objectives. He imagined that the same would be for Obama and decided to offer his assistance. So Amariel called the Obama Headquarters in Chicago and volunteered directly with officials and offered his aid to anything he and other supporters in Israel could give. â??When we called the operators were excited to hear from Americans calling from Israel to volunteer for the movement for change.â?  â??From then I got in contact with Obamaâ??s Mid-East and Jewish advisor Eric Lynn and let him know that we were starting this â??campaignâ?? in Israel to support Obama. I also urged him that Obama should consider a visit to Israel and if he did we would be there to show our support.â?
On the political scene, Amariel is a member of Democrats Abroad in Israel, and the lead manager and strategist for the â??Israel for Obamaâ? campaign started in Israel. His group of American Israelis helped comfort Jews and Israelis to the idea of an Obama presidency and organize Americans living in Israel to vote for Barack Obama.  One of the members of the group Samson Altman-Schevitz also lived in Chicago and knew Michelle Obama when she served as the Associate Dean of Student Services at the University of Chicago. They have a blog on Obamaâ??s official page, but beside that Yeshiyah is also a member of other pro-Obama Jewish groups in the United States like Orthodox Jews for Obama and Jews for Obama (whom have supported their efforts in Israel). After Senator Obamaâ??s visit to Israel, Yeshiyah and his group have received letters of cooperation with DA Israel chair Joanne Yaron and DNC supported Middle-East regional director Bob Barad in Italy.
Amariel also has written and received at least two letters from the Senator concerning his positions on Iran (Sanction bills passed), Israel (his commit to their continued aid) and the Palestinian conflict (to abstain from additional fighting that could prevent the peace process).  Yeshiyah hopes to provide the Israeli people with a direct link to the Illinois senator to better understand his positions when concerning Israel and the Jewish people. He also wants to establish this connection for average Israelis to express their views from the grassroots.
â??We interview American Israelis all over Israelâ? stated Amariel as he referred to their â??IsraelforObamaâ?? YouTube Channel. â??â?¦the number one reason why most Jews we talk to have a good opinion of Obama is because of the idea of unity within his campaignâ??s message. Some believe that kind of idea of harmony may be what the Middle East could use to become peaceful. I believe itâ??s what should be used to bring Jews together around our common goals.â?

I Weekly Entertainement Magazine’S Top 10 Persons Of 2008
#10 Rihanna (Pop/Rock Singer)
2008 was monster for Rihanna. She tied Beyonce for the most #1′s in this decade. BET named her “Fashion Icon of the Year”. Among her awards she won Billboard’s “Entertainer of the Year” and American Music Award’s “Favorite Pop/Rock Female Artist” for the second year running. In addition she is currently featured on T.I.’s “Live Your Life” single, which has dominated the #1 spot on billboard’s rap chart. And as if all that was not enough the 21 year-old is dating R&B’s hottest guy in the game Chris Brown.
#9 Candace Parker (Athlete/WNBA)
She is a beast on the basketball court. Drafted by the WNBA’s Los Angeles Sparks she is the first WNBA Player to dunk in consecutive games. She scored the most points in a rookie debut with 34. She is Candace Parker! Parker was the most heralded player to enter the draft in 2008 since her teammate Lisa Leslie. She not only dazzled her rookie season she soared to new heights. She set records by being taking home both WNBA’s MVP of the year and WNBA’s Rookie of the year. She was also named AP’s Woman Athlete of the Year! Basketball obviously runs in the family, her brother Anthony Parker is with NBA’s Toronto Raptors. And if her 2008 weren’t dazzling enough for Parker she quietly eloped with her fiancée Sheldon Williams of the NBA’s Sacramento Kings at the end of 2008!
#8 Beyonce (Singer/Songwriter/Actress)
Beyonce is no stranger to success and 2008 was no different. After a break she burst onto the scene with a new album “I Am…Sasha Fierce”. The album immediately spawned two hit singles “If I Were a Boy” and “Put a Ring On It” which is currently number one on billboard’s Hot 100 chart. She also had acting roles in “Cadillac Records” and “Obsessed” the later opening this month. And if that wasn’t enough she earned a remarkable $80 million helping make her the number one Cash Couples in Entertainment along with hubby Jay-Z. Speaking of Jay-Z she finally married her Roc earlier in 2008.
#7 Lil Wayne (Rapper/Producer)
2008 was Lil Wayne’s Year. He released his “Tha Carter III” which sold 1 million copies in 1 week. A fete that hasn’t been done since 50 Cents did it in 2005. Lil Wayne was everywhere and everyone wanted Lil Wayne. If he wasn’t performing or appearing at award shows he was being featured on everyone’s singles from T.I. to T-Pain. His hit singles Lollipop, Got Money and A Million were billboard mainstays.
#6 Jay-Z (Rapper/Mogul)
Jay has become one of the most financially successful hip-hop artist and mogul in America. He signed the biggest contract ever with Live Nation worth $150 million. He co-owns 40/40 club, The New Jersey Nets and still heads of Roca wear clothing line. He sells out concerts in 30 minutes, which is unheard of and wed the hottest girl in the game, Beyonce April of 2008. And to top things off he was the highest paid musician of 2008 bringing in over $82 million.
# 5 Michelle Obama (New First Lady/Lawyer/Wife/Mother)
She is an attorney, smart, fashion forward, a mom and wife to President-Elect Barack Obama. Michelle Obama will make history along side her husband when she becomes this countries first African American First Lady. She is Barack’s greatest asset and everyone predicts she will be a great First Lady. She has already done a good job raising her two daughters Malia and Sasha with Barack. Family is first and foremost. She is extremely close to her mom and her brother who is the men’s basketball coach at Oregon State University. In July of 2008, Michelle became an honorary member of Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority. The Chicago native will soon call the White House home.
#4 Tyler Perry (Producer/Director/Actor/Studio Head)
Tyler Perry wasn’t content to just sit back and make plays and movies. He got into television, developing the hit show “The House of Payne” which is a cable success. So hoping to strike gold twice in 2008 he went back to television to produce the series “Meet the Browns” which will premiere in 2009. His most impressive and historic move to date though was the launch of his motion picture studios located in Atlanta! Perry became the first Black to ever open and own a movie studio and lot. Tyler Perry Studios will develop all of Tyler’s projects and rent out space for other projects. Within months of opening the studio has employed over 200 employees.
#3 Oprah (Studio Head/Publisher/Television Host/Actresses/School Matron)
She is simply Oprah. However there is nothing simple about her. She is arguably the most influential woman in the world. When she speaks the World listens. In 2008 Oprah brought in over $385 million with the help of her “Oprah Winfrey Show”, Harpo Studios, Oxygen Channel, her magazine O, her radio program and more. She is a philanthropist and raised her game by opening a school for girls in South Africa. She is credited for being the first Black Billionaire with her net worth estimated at 2.7 billion. She is at the top of everyone’s list.
#2 Will Smith (Actor/Producer)
Will Smith has become the #1 movie star in America surpassing even his buddy Tom Cruise. He is box office gold and in 2008 could do no wrong. Will made box office history by becoming the 1st actor to have count them eight consecutive movies hitting the $100 million mark. No small fete by Hollywood standards. He appeals to everyone and everyone loves Will Smith. Not one to sit on his success Will founded Overbrook Entertainment a production company that produces movies, music and television programs. In 2008 alone Overbrook Entertainment released the following hits The Human Contract, Lakeview Terrace, The Secret Lives of Bees, Hancock and Seven Pounds currently in theaters. Will is not only handsome and charming he is smart. Will makes $20 million per picture and also takes home a percentage of the box office receipts on the backend. Now that is a man who knows how to work it!
#1 Barack Obama (44th President Elect)
Not many people beat out the likes of Oprah and Will Smith on year-end polls but one man did, President-Elect Barack Obama. With a simple phrase of hope he changed the course of America and brought inspiration to America and Countries abroad. No one man brought so many people together and gave a nation a reason to hope and dream again in a country struggling through a recession and slipping in it’s international popularity. “Yes We Can” became a theme of hope for millions and on November 3rd, 2008 “Yes We Can” became “Yes We Did”! President-Elect, Barack Obama is our Top Person of 2008 and soon our 1st ever-Black President as well as our 44th President of the United States of America!

White Jokes Text & Email Black New World Order
Directly after the election, (by mistake) one of my white friends received this text.
“To: All African Americans”
Please be sure to stock up on plenty of water, because there will be a lot of salty crackers out there”.
She immediately forwarded it to me and I was a bit shocked that someone would actually send her that email. Later, as the day pursued I began to receive similar types of email, some even more shocking then that. I guess they’re called “White Jokes”.
White Jokes Text & Emails
The onslaught of white jokes in text messages and emails, directly after the Obama elections finally lead me to a forum called the Black New World Order, which actually wasn’t as bad as I had expected from the email that I had received. The email that I received stated that as a Black woman in America I needed to rise up and become a force in taking America the country that our ancestor had built by the sweat of their brow. The country that we were forced to come too, forced to build, and now we shall be forced to take by force. It also stated that unlike white American that needed blacks to build this country, we will no longer need the presence of whites here in America, and that they will be given a choice to either return to Europe or we will send them to Africa.
A Racist Reality
I was quite unsure if this was a hoax or if this was real life hatred brewing into something that could possibly become a reality. Could there be a fundamental group of Black New World Order followers, that have come together to create something that in my opinion would indeed be racist? Is, this The Black New World Order, something that needs to be watched? Should white American be concerned by this new type of thinking, that is currently being exposed to everyone. It is being exposed to our young, that may be looking for something to be apart of. It is being exposed to our old that old the memories of pain, struggle and racism. It is being exposed to the world.
