How Parents Can Practice Proper Skin Care
When you are a new parent it is easy to be intimidated by taking care of your baby’s skin. Your baby’s skin care is just one of the many things that is going to concern you as you work to learn about all of the things you need to do to keep your infant healthy and safe. Would it help you to learn that common sense is at the heart of baby skin care? You don’t need any fancy products to keep your baby’s skin clean and clear. Really, you don’t need very many products at all. Here are some helpful hints for new parents to use as they develop their baby’s skin care routine.
During diaper changes skip the powder. Many people use powder because it is supposed to soak up moisture and keep the baby dry inside his diaper.
Talcum powders are easy for the baby to inhale and corn based powders and starches are breeding grounds for yeast. Your best bet when changing your baby’s diaper is to gently wash the baby’s bottom with a warm cloth and then pat him or her dry with a dry cloth before putting on the new diaper. This will keep diaper rashes and yeast issues from happening and wreaking havoc on your baby’s skin.
Choose a gentle detergent when you wash your baby’s clothing. The laundry detergent you use on your own stuff is going to be too harsh to use on your baby’s clothing and bedding. Regular detergents can leave residues and strip baby’s clothes of their softness. Washing your baby’s clothing in a gentle detergent keeps the clothing soft and (mostly) residue free, which can help you avoid skin irritations that are caused by clothing problems.
Covering your baby’s head with a hat and shading the two of you with an umbrella are extra precautions you can take. Any sunburn that does turn up can be treated with a cool soft cloth a few times a day for ten to fifteen minutes per application.
Baby skin care takes many forms. The truth is that baby skin care does not need to be complicated or difficult. In fact, if you choose the right products and practice some common sense, your baby should enjoy clean and clear skin with very few problems. Remember that you need to care for all of the skin on your baby’s body–don’t just focus on his face. Keeping your daughter or son’s skin clean and healthy is an all day long type of process but don’t worry too much about it. Before you know it, taking care of your son’s skin will feel like second nature. Before you know it you won’t even need to focus on it to keep your baby’s skin healthy. It will simply be automatic!
