Helpful Baby Skin Care Hints for New Parents
There are a lot of people out there who assume that they don’t need to take steps to care for their baby’s skin. For some reason they think that baby skin is tougher than adult skin. After all, babies have lots of time before puberty hormones set in and they have to worry about acne or other problems. The simple truth is that skin care should start from day one.
Skip the powder when you change your son or daughter’s diaper. Many parents put powder on their babies because it is supposed to be absorbent and it keeps their babies dry inside of their diapers.
The problem is that babies are able to inhale the fine dust that occurs when you sprinkle talcum powder on your child and yeast can grow in corn based starches. Instead of using powders or corn starches simply wipe your baby clean with warm water, dry her off with a dry towel and then put on a new diaper. Doing this will keep yeast from breeding and diaper rashes from happening. Your baby’s skin needs plenty of fresh air. In fact, most diaper rashes and skin issues develop because the baby has been sitting in a wet or fouled diaper for too long or wrapped up too tightly in his or her clothes. You can nip most of these rashes in the bud by letting your baby’s skin breathe. That’s right: allowing your baby to crawl around completely naked for a while can actually be good for him. This method will produce excellent results so don’t just write it off. Of course, it is not always appropriate to let your baby get naked, for instance, it may be to cold and that can lead to serious complications that can be harmful.
During the first six months of your baby’s life you want to do everything you can to keep him or her out of direct sunlight because direct sunlight can prove too harsh for your baby’s skin, which will be very sensitive to light. After your baby is six months old the direct sunlight won’t be as big an issue but you still want to make sure that every milimeter of skin not covered with clothing or a hat is covered in strong baby friendly sunscreen.
There are lots of ways to protect your baby’s skin and to make sure it stays clean and healthy. Good skin care habits develop everything so make sure you develop a skin care routine early on in your child’s life.
Remember, proper baby skin care involves taking care of the baby’s whole body, not just her (or his) face.
