Conditioning Hair Mask
Fabulous hair needs a little boost sometimes and a deep conditioning hair mask can infuse moisture and maximize your hair’s shine. So how do you apply the best hair mask? Follow my simple steps for the perfect deep conditioning treatment.
Begin by choosing the best hair mask for you. Hair masks made for frizzy or damaged hair may have more benefits than a general deep conditioner. But general deep conditioners will moisturize every hair type if you don’t have special hair needs. Another good option is a natural hair mask using natural oil like coconut oil or olive oil. These are inexpensive, natural, and very effective.
Prepare for your at home hair mask by washing hair normally and toweling dry. Your hair should be damp but not dripping. Apply a thick layer of deep conditioner or natural oil. To get the best effect, there are a few tricks for different hair types.
People with oily or fine hair should keep deep conditioner away from their roots. The ends of their hair will still need a little extra moisture sometimes so don’t forgo the mask but only apply deep conditioner from an inch below the roots or just to the ends of hair.
For people with thick hair, applying a moisturizing hair mask evenly can be hard to do. To moisturize all of your hair, separate your hair into 2 to 3 layers. Then apply your hair mask one section at a time. This gives equal attention to all of the hair on your head and evenly moisturizes.
After you’ve applied your hair mask, wrap hair in plastic. This traps some natural body heat and allows you to add more heat to your hair mask. To get even more out of your deep conditioning treatment, wrap a hot damp towel around the outside of the plastic. Adding more heat allows more moisture into your hair.
Let the hair mask soak into your hair for 20-30 minutes. Hair masks need to stay on hair longer than daily conditioner. This gives your hair time to soak up needed vitamins and fats that improve hair’s health.
Rinse or wash out deep conditioner. If hair is oily or thin, you will most likely need to wash hair after deep conditioning. People with dry, damaged or thick hair can usually just rinse out excess conditioner. This leaves hair shiny and ready show off.
A few habits can keep hair looking great. Use a daily conditioner between deep conditioning treatments and keep up a hair mask routine. Most people should use a hair mask once a month. This is enough to boost hair’s condition for most hair types. Very dry or damaged hair could benefit from using a hair mask once a week or more.
